Siasia lays down selection rules for Super Eagles

Nigeria coach Samson Siasia

Nigeria coach Samson Siasia says there will be no place in his squad for players who do not see regular action for their clubs.

The former Heartland coach believes these applied virtues would intensify competition and raise the standards of the Super Eagles team in their bid to attain success.

“The only criteria for making the national team is to be playing regularly for your club. This is the golden rule we will apply it,” said the coach.

Players like Obafemi Martins, Daniel Shittu, Chidi Ordia, Elderson Echejile and others might have reached the end of their international careers since they are not playing regularly for their respective clubs.

The new selection regime is expected to take effect from Nigeria’s next assignment.

The Eagles will play an African opponent on May 28 to herald the inuguration of the President Goodluck Jonathan. On June 1 they will face Argentina and then finally play Ethiopia on June 4.

A squad for these two assignments would be released next week which will definitely reflect Siasia’s new criteria.
