Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan has told his team-mates to forget about a European spot and instead concentrate on their poor Premier League form.
The Black Cats currently sit eighth in the table after an impressive start but are currently on a run of four straight league defeats.
Gyan, who became the club’s record signing when he joined from Rennes last summer, says the Wearsider’s form is “embarrassing” after Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Everton.
“We shouldn’t think of Europe,” Gyan told The Sun.
“We have lost four in a row and it is embarrassing, so we must think only of stopping that run.”
The Ghana international has ten goals this season but says clean sheets are the key to winning games.
“At the start we kept 11 clean sheets and we hope we can go back to winning,” he added.
Sunderland’s next game is away to Arsenal on Saturday.
