Pienaar talks up Spurs Cup chances

Pienaar holds off challenge from Barton

Midfielder Steven Pienaar believes new club Tottenham have what it takes to win the FA Cup.

Pienaar, the subject of transfer bids from both Spurs and Chelsea, opted to move to White Hart Lane earlier this month in a reported three-million-pound deal.

The South Africa international, who is expected to take part in Sunday’s FA Cup clash against Fulham, said Spurs can go all the way to Wembley.

“Yeah definitely,” Pienaar said when asked if Spurs can win the cup.

“We’ve got the players. We’ve got a squad that can go all the way and win trophies, so it’s all up to us to do it.”

“As a player you want to win things. Also you want to win trophies and as a club you want to win trophies, so I think this is a good chance for us to go all the way to Wembley.”

Pienaar is settling in well at his new club and made his debut for Tottenham in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Newcastle United.

The 28-year-old admitted he was surprised to have been thrust into action so quickly by Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

“It was sooner than I expected, but sometimes when you get an opportunity you have to grab it with both hands,” he said.

“Hopefully, I think, I tried to show that I can play in this team.”

“So far it’s going well. Of course, it’s totally different than Everton, but it will take some time. I’m quite patient and I hope that it will work out very well.”

“Sometimes I still think I’m dreaming, but I’m quite happy with the way things have been going. I thank God that I can show my talent to the rest of the world on a daily basis, so I’m quite happy.”
