A perfectly placed Samuel Eto’o penalty completed a dramatic comeback for Inter Milan at the San Siro in their Serie-A tie against Palermo on Sunday.
The champions had been stunned by two first half goals from the visitors through Fabrizio Miccoli on 5minuteas and Antonio Nocerino.
However, the blast of the whistle for the start of the second half marked the renaissance of the Nerazzurri.
It turned out to be the perfect debut for substitute Giampaolo Pazzini who had arrived from Sampdoria just two days earlier.
The striker’s 57th minute strike looked to have been undone by a concession of a penalty kick by Thiago Motta in the 63rd minute. However, Palermo’s star-man Javier Pastore failed to captalise.
And how dearly the missed penalty kick came back to haunt as Pazzini popped up again to pull Inter level with 17 minutes left on the clock.
An instant hit the Italian international have been with the Inter faithfuls but there was more to come from him. He won a vital penalty two minutes later which was expertly converted by his new strike partner Samuel Eto’o.
The Cameroon international’s overzealous celebration which involved taking off his shirt earned him a yellow card which he graciously took with a handshake with the referee.
Even a late attacking surge by the visitors was not enough to give them their first point at the San Siro against Inter.
Morocco international Houssine Kharja was also very efficient on his debut for last season’s treble winners.
