Fifa has provisionally suspended its powerful Nigerian official Amos Adamu over a scandal to sell World Cup hosting votes.
This confirms Afrikansccer.com exclusive report from within the world governing body who want to thoroughly investigate without any hindrance.
Another member of the Fifa executive committee Reynald Temarii was also slapped with the ban over the allegations of corruption.
Four other members of FIFA – Slim Aloulou, Ismael Bhamjee, Amadou Diakite and Ahongalu Fusimalohi – have also been provisionally suspended from all football activity, according to Claudio Sulser, Chairman of FIFA’s Ethics Committee.
The Fifa executive committee members were secretly filmed offering to sell their votes in the contest to host the 2018 World Cup ahead of December’s ballot.
Fifa’s Ethics Commission met in Zurich, Switzerland on Wednesday to deliberate on the allegations levelled against the two men by The Sunday Times of London.
“The decision to provisionally suspend these officials is fully justified and should not be put in question,” said Fifa ethics committee chairman Claudio Sulser.
“It is crucial to protect the integrity of the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidding process. We are determined to have zero tolerance for any breach of the code of ethics.”
The Fifa commission will take a decisive stand following the damaging allegation, which has tainted the image of the world apex body.
The British newspaper filmed Adamu agreeing to accept $800 000 in return for his vote in the 2018 Fifa World Cup bid.
He is alleged to have said the money will be used to build artificial pitches in Nigeria.
