Ghana FA denies Kingston's rift with coach

Kingston alleged to have attempted attacking coach

The Ghana Football Association has moved to deny reports that Laryea Kingston attempted to physically assault coach Milovan Rajevac after the player was dropped from the Black Stars squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Kingston was the big name casualty from the 23-man team travelling to the World Cup in a move that has shocked many football fans and enraged the midfielder himself.

Kingston reportedly had to be restrained from physically assaulting the Serbian coach before allegedly raining foul mouthed insults questioning the competence of the man who qualified Ghana for a second World Cup.

“I swear to God you are not a good coach. You don’t know anything about football, you are a stupid man!” Kingston reportedly yelled in the foul-mouthed explosion which lasted over five minutes.

But the GFA whose vice president is said to have restrained the player denies all that. “Laryea was on the same flight with the team to Amsterdam and wished us well in the tournament and left for Edinburgh, Scotland.

He never attacked anybody after being dropped. This story about him should be disregarded,” Ghana FA spokesperson Randy Abbey said.

“The truth is that any player dropped will be let down by his inability to play at the World Cup but it will be nonsensical for anyone to go ballistic on the coach.

“Even in the case of Ronaldinho who has played at the event before will be down because he couldn’t make it this time. I must add that everything is fine and we are moving on with our preparations.”

Kingston (29), missed the 2006 World Cup after picking up a suspension at the Nations Cup for unsporting behaviour earlier in the year.

The decision by Rajevac not to pick him for the tournament could effectively end his national team career and kill of any dreams he had of playing at the World Cup.
